If you suspect a leak

Act straight away and don’t delay – leaks that are left unrepaired can lead to substantial costs in lost water and property damage.

Determine its location

Turn off your main internal stop valve and check your meter again. You may need to leave it a few more hours in this position to be sure.

If your meter has remained stationary with the internal stop valve turned off, your leak is from your internal pipework.

It’s important to act quickly when you discover a leaky or burst pipe.

External leaks

If your meter has continued to turn with your internal stop valve switched off, the leak is from your external pipework between the meter and the stop valve.

These can be difficult to detect. Look for telltale signs such as damp patches of ground or even areas of grass that remain suspiciously lush during dry seasons.

Our leak detection & repair service is also on hand to assist.

Leak or burst allowance

If you have a water meter and you think you have a leak or burst pipe somewhere on your pipework, you may be eligible to apply for a leak allowance to help cover the costs of the excess water that’s been used.
