Guidance for candidates

We aim to keep our recruitment process as simple as possible, and to keep you updated throughout.

What to expect

Every vacancy has a role profile which outlines the necessary skills and experience required. All applications are assessed against these criteria to ensure fairness and consistency for all.

If you're one of our selected candidates, our Recruitment team will contact you to schedule an interview. The interview will likely be a face-to-face meeting at our Edinburgh office but please note that our Hiring Manager might request a Teams video call initially to go over your CV and get to know you better. Our interviews are structured to put you at ease and to help us understand your talents.

If you have a disability and/or require reasonable adjustments to be made during the recruitment process, please let us know in advance so that any support, aids or adaptations can be put in place to assist you in the interview.

Handy tips for a successful application

  • Make sure your CV reflects who you are and the experience you have to offer Business Stream. It's an opportunity to highlight what makes you right for the role you're applying for.
  • We don’t use AI to review the applications we receive and recommend you don’t use it to write your application. We’re interested in the real you. Try to bring your experiences to life in a way that’s natural and authentic to you.
  • Review the role profile before you come for your interview, so you can relate your experience to the requirements of the role.
  • It can be helpful to prepare real-life examples of your previous experience using the STAR method i.e. Tell us the Situation, then the Task, the Action you took and, finally, the Result. This helps you prepare for the competency questions that you'll be asked.
  • Take your time before responding and don’t hesitate to ask for the question to be repeated or for clarification if you don’t understand.
  • Feel free to prepare some questions for us. This is a two-way conversation and you need to decide if we're right for you too.

Inclusive recruitment

It really matters to us that we offer an inclusive working environment.

That’s why, for instance, in 2025, we became the first water supplier to sign up to the Race at Work Charter as part of our wider Equity, Diversity and Inclusion programme. You can find out more about the Charter and our commitments here.

And in 2024, we achieved Level 1 (Disability Confident Committed) of the UK Government’s Disability Confident Employer Scheme and are working towards Level 2.
