Track inspections

When your development is ready for connection, Scottish Water will need to check the pipework has been laid correctly and according to the approved design.

Next steps

Once everything has been checked and approved, your water or waste water system will get the go-ahead. For a standard system (25-32mm diameter pipework), you’ll typically be connected within 10 business days of Scottish Water completing their inspection. For water connections larger than 32mm diameter, please contact our team for advice.

Sewer connections are completed by your contractor and inspected by Scottish Water for compliance.

What you need to do

We recommend arranging a free-of-charge pre-start meeting with Scottish Water prior to commencement of works. Our team will be happy to schedule this.

Once the job has been completed, you’ll need to make sure the site is prepared for inspection - this will help avoid delays or additional charges. It’s important to be aware of your responsibilities and to ensure you’ve satisfied any conditions beforehand. Our team will make you aware of these but it’s especially important to:

  • Make sure you’ve submitted and paid for a building water application before requesting your track inspection. Alternatively, you must provide evidence that your building water has been sourced by another means, e.g. bowsers or by using ready-mix concrete.
  • Keep us informed of the timescales for your proposed connections throughout the application.
