We have a range of working groups set up to encourage collaboration, provide opportunities for new ideas and foster team working.

Making a positive difference

Our vision is to make a positive difference to our customers, our people, the environment and our local communities. And it’s through the efforts of our colleagues every single day that we’re making this vision a reality.

Our Making a Positive Difference Steering Group owns the overall action plan for our other working groups and is made up of senior representatives across the business and the Chairs of our MAPD Working Groups.

“It’s important to me to work for a business that genuinely cares about giving back – and that’s absolutely the case at Business Stream. Our communities programme, especially the work we do in partnership with charities and education-based organisations to support young people through mentoring, skills training and placements, is testament to the business’ commitment.”

Equity, diversity & inclusion

We want to provide a great place to work where our colleagues feel trusted, valued, supported and empowered, irrespective of their background or role. We’re committed to providing an inclusive workplace that welcomes and promotes diversity and provides equal opportunities for all.

We’ve rolled out Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) training to all our people managers; launched our ED&I awareness-raising programme; made enhancements to our recruitment process to encourage and promote diversity; and invested in additional support for colleagues including creating our dedicated quiet room and ensuring we do more to support our remote workers.

This group meets regularly to organise and run events to raise funds for our charity partners. Activities include bake sales, beach cleans and quiz nights.

Wellbeing & engagement

To support a healthy, happy and engaged workforce, we’ve introduced a range of initiatives that target our four wellbeing pillars – mental health, physical health, social wellbeing and financial wellbeing. These include an Employee Assistance Programme, a 24/7 free, confidential advice and support service for colleagues and their families; paying over the Real Living Wage; free financial planning sessions; training for colleagues in mental health first aid; regular employee engagement events and exercise challenges; and access to a free 24/7 gym and subsidised restaurant.

Our Wellbeing and Engagement Group supports our goals by running events throughout the year, including sponsored walks, quizzes and providing healthy treats to colleagues.

Employee forum

This group comprises representatives from across the business, including our management team and trade unions. The forum provides an opportunity for our colleagues to have a say on what’s working well and where we can make further improvements. It also allows our leadership team to consult with colleague representatives on organisational issues or business developments that may impact work life. Topics include benefits, new or amended policies, senior management activities, facilities and services, our annual engagement survey and general employee concerns or queries.
